How To Setup L2TP on Ubuntu

Install L2TP Support

  1. Open a terminal and install the necessary packages by running: sudo apt update && sudo apt install network-manager-l2tp network-manager-l2tp-gnome

Access Network Settings

  1. Click on the network icon in the top-right corner of the screen and select "Settings."
  2. Go to "Network" in the left sidebar.

Add VPN Connection

  1. Click the "+" button under "VPN" to add a new VPN connection.

Select VPN Type

  1. Select "Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP)" and click "Create."

Configure VPN Details

  1. Name: Enter a name, e.g., "WorldVPN L2TP".
  2. Gateway: Login to the VPN panel at https://www.worldvpn.net/client/login using your VPN username and password to obtain your server address.
  3. User name: Your VPN username.
  4. Password: Your VPN account password.
  5. NT Domain: Leave blank.

IPsec Settings

  1. Click on "IPsec Settings."
  2. Check "Enable IPsec tunnel to L2TP host."
  3. Pre-shared key: Enter "worldvpn".
  4. Click "OK" to save.

Save and Connect

  1. Click "Add" to save the VPN connection.
  2. Toggle the VPN switch to connect.

Verification

  1. Once connected, check your IP address by running curl ifconfig.me in the terminal or visiting a site like whatismyipaddress.com to ensure you're browsing through the VPN server.
